The documents, part of a recent batch of Epstein-related files, paint a troubling picture. In 2010 and 2011, Andrew, then serving as trade envoy, appears to have shared details of his official trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Shenzhen with Epstein, even introducing him to business associates. And this is the part most people miss: just days after receiving official reports on these visits from his assistant, Andrew allegedly forwarded them to Epstein.
Trade envoys, while not civil servants, are bound by strict confidentiality rules regarding sensitive commercial and political information. The Official Secrets Acts further underscore the gravity of such a breach. Andrew, who held the trade envoy position from 2001 to 2011, has yet to comment on these allegations. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and it’s important to note that being named in the Epstein files doesn’t automatically imply guilt.
However, the timeline raises serious questions. Andrew claimed in a 2019 BBC interview that he ended his friendship with Epstein in December 2010. Yet, on Christmas Eve that same year, he emailed Epstein a confidential briefing on investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province, a project funded by UK taxpayers.
Former Business Secretary Sir Vince Cable expressed surprise, stating he was unaware of Andrew sharing such information. Another email from February 2011 suggests Andrew encouraged Epstein to invest in a private equity firm he had recently visited.
These revelations add to the years of scrutiny Andrew has faced over his association with Epstein. Buckingham Palace recently announced his departure from Royal Lodge and the removal of his princely title. Andrew has since relocated to Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.
