Winter's Fury Hits Pittsburgh: Battening Down for a Blizzard
Brace yourselves, Pittsburgh! A winter storm is barreling towards the city, bringing heavy snowfall and bone-chilling temperatures. But this isn't your average snow day—it's a full-blown weather event that has the city on high alert.
The National Weather Service has issued a dire warning: a Winter Storm Warning for counties south of Allegheny County, and a Winter Weather Advisory for Allegheny and its northern neighbors. This storm means business, with a 'band of heavier snow' expected to blanket the region.
But here's where it gets controversial: While the forecast predicts 2-4 inches of snow across most of Pittsburgh, the city itself and the ridges could see a whopping 3-5 inches and 5-10 inches, respectively. The storm's peak is expected to hit overnight, with steady snow tapering off from northwest to southeast between midnight and 4 a.m. Sunday. But the drama doesn't end there—lake-effect snow showers will persist, impacting the I-80 to Route 422 corridors and potentially reaching the Pittsburgh metro area, reducing visibility and piling on more snow.
