Norwich City Announces Mohamed Toure's Transfer from Randers FC
Norwich City has officially signed Australian international striker Mohamed Toure from Danish Super Liga club Randers FC. The 21-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with an additional one-year club option, for an undisclosed fee, believed to be an initial £2.6m with potential add-ons of £700,000.
Toure traveled to England on Saturday to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms, marking him as City's fourth signing of the January transfer window. The move comes as a strategic addition to Philippe Clement's squad, addressing the need for a forward with Josh Sargent currently in a transfer stand-off with the club due to interest from Toronto FC.
Toure's talent was recognized early, with the club tracking his progress since his move to Europe in 2022. Sporting director Ben Knapper praised Toure's development, highlighting his versatility and experience in various leagues and countries. Knapper noted that Toure's high potential and international exposure make him an exciting prospect for the club.
Toure expressed his excitement about joining Norwich City, citing the influence of Philippe Clement and the club's environment as key factors. He stated, 'I've known the club for a long time, and I'm thrilled to get started. I'm here to learn and develop, and I've heard that Philippe Clement has had a significant impact on the players, bringing out their best. It's an environment I want to be in, and I aim to improve under his guidance.'
Randers FC football director Søren Pedersen acknowledged Toure's move as a strategic decision, stating, 'Mohamed came to us as a promising talent with great potential. We believed in his development and long-term value for the club, and he has certainly fulfilled those expectations. The sale of Mohamed Toure is comparable in value to our previous record deal for Tammer Bany.'
Toure's journey began as a Liberian refugee in Guinea, where he started his career with Croydon Kings in South Australia. He later joined Adelaide United in the A League in 2020, making his senior debut at 19 years old, becoming the third youngest debutant in the league's history. Toure's talent continued to shine as he moved to Reims in France in 2022, where he worked under former Southampton boss Will Still, scoring eight times in 15 matches for their second side.
The striker's move to Denmark in 2025 with Randers FC for €250,000 showcased his adaptability, as he scored 12 goals and recorded nine assists in 48 appearances. Toure's international career includes eight appearances for Australia, with two goals, and his debut at Wembley Stadium against England in October 2023.
Norwich City's recent signings include Canadian international winger Ali Ahmed and attacking midfielder Paris Maghoma, as well as Manchester United left-back Harry Amass on loan. However, a setback occurred as Amass suffered a long-term injury, ruling him out for several weeks. The focus now shifts to finding a 'ball-playing number six' to fill the void left by Pelle Mattsson's ankle injury and Mirko Topic's ACL knee injury, with the transfer window closing at 7 pm on Monday.
