A critical warning has been issued to iPhone users worldwide, urging them to take immediate action to protect their devices. The situation is dire, with Apple's data revealing a concerning trend: nearly half of all eligible iPhone users have not yet upgraded their phones to address critical security issues.
The urgency stems from Apple's decision to restrict security fixes exclusively to compatible iPhones running the latest software, iOS 26. This move has sparked hesitancy among users, especially those resistant to certain features like Apple's Liquid Glass displays.
But here's where it gets controversial: the slow adoption of iOS 26 leaves many iPhone users vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. As of January, a mere 4.6% of active iPhones were running iOS 26.2, with the vast majority still on older versions like iOS 18.
And this is the part most people miss: the latest iOS 26 update includes essential security features designed to shield users from these threats. Google's Threat Analysis Group even collaborated with Apple to uncover and address these security breaches.
Affected devices include iPhone 11 and newer models, iPad Pros, and various iPad Air and Mini generations. Two major security flaws, CVE-2025-43529 and CVE-2025-14174, have compromised devices running older iOS versions.
The first flaw, a "use-after-free" exploit, allows hackers to gain control of victims' web browsers and, by extension, their devices. The second flaw uses memory corruption to hijack iPhones and iPads, potentially exposing personal data to cybercriminals.
Apple strongly advises users to upgrade to the latest software immediately and emphasizes the importance of rebooting for optimal security.
"Keeping your software up to date is crucial for maintaining the security of your Apple products," Apple stated.
To ensure your iPhone's protection, Apple has provided the following instructions for updating your iOS:
"Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If your iPhone is not running iOS 26.2 or iOS 18.7.3, go to Settings > General > Shut Down and power the device off. Alternatively, you can press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears."
Don't become a victim of these targeted hacks. Take action now to secure your iPhone and stay protected.
